Full scholarship awarded to Wake County baby named 1 millionth resident
Anderson Grace Hughes , a baby born Aug. 22 at WakeMed hospital in Raleigh, has been identified by the hospital and by Wake Technical Community College as the one millionth new resident in Wake County, and for that the college has promised the child a full, two-year scholarship.

One killed, one wounded in shooting near downtown Raleigh
Officers responded to the shooting, which happened near Club Rumors, just south of the Red Hat Amphitheater, shortly before 5 a.m. A 23-year-old man was taken to WakeMed, where he was pronounced dead.

Motorcyclist killed in crash on Raleighs south side
Police spokesman Jim Sughrue said officers were called to the crash scene on the south side of Raleigh, just north of the junction of U.S. 70 and U.S. 401, shortly after 7:15 p.m. The male driver of the motorcycle was taken to WakeMed in Raleigh, where he later died.
