Pioneer seeks county support on new rules

Representatives of Pioneer Natural Resources met with the Las Animas County Board of Commissioners Thursday, with Pioneer's associate general counsel, Ron Schindler, seeking support for Pioneer's alternate draft of the new state oil and energy regulations.

Schindler was quick to assure the commissioners that it wasn't any particular form of an alternate draft that he desired them to support, but was merely hoping to solicit their support for a alternate draft, details to be worked out later with their input.

Energy controversy continues

“The (CDW) determined that much of the impact on big game winter range that it was trying to address in connection with oil and gas operations in Las Animas County had already occurred...through previous drilling and development in the county”

Controversy continues over draft regulations for the oil and gas industry created by the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC), with energy conglomerate Pioneer Natural Resources weighing in on the proposed regulatory changes.

The draft regulations are a result of bills passed last year by the Colorado legislature, HB 1298 and HB 1341. The bills ordered the COGCC to work with both the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) and the Colorado Division of Wildlife (CDW) in drafting updated regulations for the energy industry. Debate continues about proposed regulations

“If there's a problem, let's solve it. If there's a perception, let's not legislate based on perception”

Controversy continues in Las Animas County over regulations proposed by the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC) that would affect the oil and gas industry. The energy industry and related organizations have launched a public-relations campaign against the proposed regulations.

The most recent action against the proposed regulations changes came Friday in the form of a rally organized by the Colorado Oil and Gas Association (COGA) in Trinidad's Cimino Park. Simultaneous rallies were also held at the Capitol building in Denver, the Weld County Courthouse in Greeley and at Two Rivers Convention Center in Grand Junction. Read more
