Omnicell buys Pontiac firm for $26 million
Shawn Rioux, the college dropout who started a hospital cart factory near Pontiac five years ago, is now a millionaire.
Rioux, 40, completed the sale of his business Wednesday to a Silicon Valley company for $26 million.
Omnicell Inc. plans to keep the Rioux Vision factory and its 60 employees in Pontiac, said Deborah Reinert, a spokeswoman for Mountain View, Calif., company.
Rioux (pronounced Rio) will be leaving the company.
Omnicell has more than 600 employees and has a manufacturing facility in Mountain View, handling final assembly of cabinets and computer equipment for hospital pharmacies, Reinert said. Read more

Hospitals are supposed to make you better, but sometimes they make you sicker.
Patients can come down with infections, fall in the hallways or receive the wrong medications.
Patient safety issues are getting more attention from state and federal regulators, as well as the hospital certification body known as the Joint Commission.
The Joint Commission, for example, has made the reduction of drug errors one of its top safety goals for hospitals.
The commission says that medication errors in the U.S. harm about 1.5 million patients a year and are responsible for several thousand deaths, costing the nation at least $3.5 billion a year. Read more
