But Neurogen Corp. of Branford is barely hanging on.
After losing money for most of 20 years - more than $50 million last year - the drug development company has bet the house that a drastic restructuring will give investors enough promising information to keep them interested. A pioneer of Connecticut's biotech industry, Neurogen expects to close on a new $30.6 million financing deal in the coming days, it said this week.
The stock, which reached an all-time high of $47.37 in 2000, closed Thursday at $1.47 on the Nasdaq Stock Market. Shares are down 79 percent in the past 12 months, and on March 17 the company said its auditors have questioned its prospects as a going concern. Read more
