Tim Wu to Albany: Block Big Media Merger
Not even a week after Zephyr Teachout and Tim Wu's narrower-than-expected defeat, they're back on the streets, urging Albany to block Comcast's $45 billion merger with Time Warner Cable. Wu said the merger will mean higher cable prices for New Yorkers and, as a result, limited access to information.
Charter closes on $3.5 billion loan
The new loans will be used to finance Charter's acquisition from Comcast of 1.5 million Time Warner Cable video customers. Charter previously announced it had entered into commitments for up to $8.4 billion of loans, and this $3.5 billion is part of that commitment.

State attorneys general are looking into AT&T's plans to acquire DirecTV, broadening their previous probe into the merger between Comcast and Time Warner Cable, Reuters reported. About dozen states were already coordinating with the U.S. Justice Department to interview opponents and supporters of Comcast's $45 billion acquisition of Time Warner Cable, the news agency said .

State regulators believe some Time Warner Cable customers could see their Internet and cable TV bills more than double under the company's proposed $45 billion merger with Comcast. Although the two media giants say no rate hikes are planned, staff at the state Public Service Commission, which is reviewing the merger, say Comcast's most basic TV and Internet offerings are more expensive than Time Warner Cable rates.
