Koch's Invista says new nylon pipe an alternative for oil industry

A unit of Koch Industries said on Wednesday it was introducing a new type of pipe made from nylon, as surging oil and gas output drives demand for new pipelines and concerns mount about the safety of older ones across North America. Koch's Invista unit said the nylon pipe was designed to withstand tough oilfield conditions, including corrosive liquids, abrasions, considerable pressure and high temperatures.

Invista launches new pipe with the oil patch in mind

The new product, called Raptor, is nylon 6,6 homogenous single wall line pipe that withstands temperatures up to 200 degrees Fahrenheit and pressures up to 500 PSI, the Koch Industries company said in a news release. "We discovered a strong market signal for a line pipe that was tough enough to handle the oil patch and perform daily under rugged conditions, but could be installed quickly, which provides E&P and midstream companies flexibility in their schedules," said Vikram Gopal, Invista vice president of technology, in the release.

The Kochs are apparently feeling the blowback from their efforts to buy a Congress that will do their bidding, and are launching a new public relations effort with two aims: making them appear as warm and fuzzy patriotic job creators and attacking liberal groups. The Washington Post reports: In coming weeks, Koch Industries plans a fresh round of television ads casting itself as an all-American company with a diverse workforce-part of the first nationwide marketing campaign it has ever undertaken.

Chicago's battle against the enormous exposed piles of petroleum coke on the Southeast Side will heat up this evening, as marchers plan on taking the fight directly to KCBX Terminals - where the toxic substance is being stored. In June, the Environmental Protection Agency sent KCBX , a subsidiary of Koch Industries, a formal violation notice, as the piles have caused dramatic reductions in air quality and water pollution in the area.

Southwest Georgia Ethanol acquired by Kansas producer

A corn-ethanol plant near Albany, Ga., with a checkered past has been acquired by a Kansas-based subsidiary of Koch Industries Inc. Flint Hills Resources LLC of Wichita, Kan., already owns six ethanol plants, but Southwest Georgia Ethanol LLC of Camilla, Ga., will be its first pickup outside of the Midwest. "The Camilla plant is a premier destination for corn in southwest Georgia," Brad Razook , president and CEO of Flint Hills Resources, said in a news release.

Flint Hills Resources buys seventh ethanol plant

Flint Hills Resources, a subsidiary of Koch Industries, announced Friday that it has reached agreement to buy its seventh ethanol plant, and the first outside the Midwest, in Camilla, Ga. The transaction with Southwest Georgia Ethanol is expected to close after receiving regulatory approvals.
