Austin, Texas to make big solar energy expansion

In a sure sign that solar energy's time may at last be approaching, Austin , Texas has passed a resolution that would mandate that the city obtain 60 percent of its electricity from renewables over the next decade and go carbon free by 2030.

The Austin City Council in Texas is considering resolutions that would adopt as policy the results of a nine-person citizen Task Force that recommended sweeping changes to the way Austin Energy delivers electricity to its 425,000 customers in the Austin area, the utility said yesterday.

August 20, 2014 - Austin Energy lowers proposed rate increase below...

Austin Energy is lowering its proposed increase to the average monthly residential bill from 4.4 percent to 2.6 percent to stay below a system-wide affordability goal, the Texas utility said Aug. 15. The average 1,000 kilowatt-hour monthly bill would increase by $2.72.
