The choir had been suspended from the SBC for its beliefs on homosexuality. Main Street baptist church pulled the plug because they were not members of the SBC and they could not sponsor them. It was not because of their beliefs. The same is true for the University of the Cumberlands. It was a legal move that will end up turning on both Main Street and Cumberland for being closed minded on the "GAY" issue. It was not about homosexuality. The choir brought a list of problems with them and would have been smart to allow that negative publicity. This is similar to that kid that was kicked out of Cumberland. It wasn't a gay issue....he had sex in the dorm. There were several heterosexual couples kicked out for the same action.

As a Christian I am in full support of UofC for not allowing this "church" to come perform. I don't have a problem with gay people coming to church. Just like I dont' have a problem with an alcoholic, drug addict, or anyone who hasn't yet accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, coming to church. Those people need to hear about Jesus too! What I do have a problem with is an establishment that calls itself a church allowing any individual who is willfully sinning after making a profession of faith (no matter what the sin is) to become a member of that church, and/or hold a position in that church.
I DO NOT believe that the decision to uninvite this group was politically motivated. I DO NOT believe any negative repercussions will be felt by UofC or Main Street Church because of their decision. It would have probably been the other way around! Had they not stood behind their beliefs, had they denied God like Peter did, then their consequence would have been much worse than any politiacal retaliation man could dish out. I know that God will reward their decision to stand steadfast for Him. In the grand scheme of things, what God thinks of what you do is all that matters.
But for what it's worth--Dr.Taylor, I support your decision!!! Thank you for showing that Christians do still have a back bone and that meakness should not be mistaken for weakness. Thank You!

What a bunch of hypocritical old farts, when I went there back in the day, I had several FACULTY members who were gay. 2 old guys in the Lit. dept were hilarious and another former female teacher supposedly died from complications of AIDS. Back then it was a don't ask don't tell thing. But, everyone knew they were gay and now they act so better than thou. Too bad they don't have someone like Dr. Boswell running that place now. It would be so much better.

Hogwash, Jesus walked with and had dealings with the sinners too. If he'd only dealt with the self-righteous Christian people, like you, his job here on earth would have been much easier. Those kids who wanted to come and help some of the no account welfare people in this holy little county couldn't help it if their church was open to all people. I think it's a shame that a bunch of hypocrits caused such a stink.

So anyone who has made a profession of faith and sins(which there is NOONE who doesn't sin) should not be allowed to be a member of a church? What church do you go to,because I never want to go there. I sin in some way everyday even though I try not to and I believe that God forgives me when I ask him to . Have I been wrong for 50 years? If so I guess we are all doomed for hell. Thats not THE GOD I WORSHIP. My God forgives sinners!I also read that the group are helping out in Nashville Tn with the SBC

I am assuming that you are from the Williamsburg area or you wouldn't be so informed about the SBC situation. I would like to know if you attend a local church and where? Why would I like to know? Because when you tell me, then I am going to give you a list of all the people in your church, who walk through the door everytime they are open, who have committed worse crimes than homosexuality and you probably aren't even aware of the issues that they keep hidden. Churchs aren't only for saints. God opened his arms to everyone, especially the ones who needed it the most. Bring the lost into your congregation and show them the way of the Bible. You ,my friend, are a hypocrite. Should I remind all of you of the scripture which reads "Judge not"? You are committing a sin by your judgement of these people. You better hope that the church doesn't find out or you will be gone. Quit blindly following the people who makes these ridiculous decisions and think with the brain that God gave you.

I think you have misunderstood my point. I did not say that I and other Christians no longer sin. I was trying to say that I don't think it's appropriate for a person to willfully live in sin and hold an office or position in the house of God. It was not my intention to target homosexuals alone. For example, a heterosexual couple living together out of wedlock, a nude dancer, a bartender, a drug dealer... I never said sinners shouldn't be in church, just that they shouldn't hold positions in the church.
I know each of us, no matter how good our intentions are, sin on a daily basis. I never meant to anger anyone with my comment. Only to show support for Dr.Taylor's decision.
