Let's get this straight on the old hospital deal. The four people who bought the old marshall county hospital is Harold Beck, Jay Riley, Keith Murtco, and Dennis Smith. They want to put in a medical school, a va clinic, or a drug rehab clinic. Well, what kind of training do you think a medical student would get in west ky? Heck, most cases of anything beyond a common cold is sent to Nashville, Evansville, or Louisville. So, we would get medical students with basically no training. Why would we want a VA Clinic only 20 miles from the clinic they just opened in Mayfield? Talk about spending taxpayers dollars foolishly. Finally, a drug rehab clinic failed to do any good in Paducah a few years back before it was closed down. I think they should renovate it into a regional jail to help house the overflow of prisoners in the western ky counties. What does everyone else think?

More jails sound good to me too. Why let these meth lab criminals out on probation over and over and over when they just come back and do it again. Wait till one of them run over and kill one of your family members in a car wreck and see what you think then. The cops told me that meth don't stay in system long enough and if they test someone after a wreck it won't show up...so they are scot free. Lets start playing hardball with these and other criminals and lock their butts up for a long time.

Perhaps the building can serve as a training ground, of sorts, for transcribers, medical information specialists, or disaster preparedness coordinators?

My personal opinion is someone should think about an alternative school, something like the 'Waldorf' schools would be most excellent!

By "alternative," I meant an alternative choice from existing systems that are in-place but failing to see the changing needs of our new children.

We seriously need an advanced thinking superintendent, or a system which allows the teachers great flexibility...

Just ask a lower grade level teacher..our children are so much different than previous generations..they learn different, and the system we have set up here in Marshall Co now is failing these kids miserably!(As it has been for 20yrs now!)

Forget the waldorf school idea in that building...
If that's true...which I don't doubt.. I feel nothing should be put there until all health risks are taken care of.

It would be nice to see this area open a school to help deal with adhd children, children that need more one on one.

this area is lacking in help with these kids, seems they want to lock them up, or send them to cumberland hall, wake up people, someone needs to attend to the needs of these children!

The current West Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson, KY can be a very long drive for families from Ballard,Graves, McCracken, and Marshall County.

The majority of residents currently in the West Kentucky Veterans Center lived within a 30 mile radius of the facility most of their lives. There is a waiting list to get into the facility. It is one of the nicest Nursing Homes in Kentucky but there are very few residents from McCracken, Graves, Marshall, and Graves counties due to the distance family members are required to drive to visit their loved one.

We have a large number of Veterans that would be helped by a Veterans Nursing Home/Rehab facility in this part of the state. The current Veterans Clinics are only small Clinics that allow the patients to see their primary caregiver. The Veterans still travel to Marion, IL to see a specialist with some services requiring a drive to St. Louis.

There are many Veterans in our area that would not have the oportunity to get needed medical treatment if they did not have the volunteer drivers that drive vans to Marion, IL.

Our Veterans did so much for us. There is a tremendous need that could be met through using the old hospital as a Veterans Center. Freedom isn't free.

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Capricorn

A certain person is strong-willed with the Full Moon in your emotional house of others. It's a lunar eclipse too, so this could lead to some ructions in which everyone becomes firmly entrenched in their own opinions and refuses to acknowledge anyone else's point of view. Get the arguments out of the way early on, so you can then concentrate on having a really enjoyable New Year's Eve.
