What about the one trillion styrofoam trays every year ?? What about the paper/tree products used in place of the already-green "reusable" trays ?? You lie, too. The U is slashes costs so they can pay their bloated top-heavy staff, and then wrap-up this new pile of fec@l matter with a "going green" initiative. Sadly, this will fly since the demo is comprised of guppy u of m lefty students and their socialist-left academic leaders. They can wallow drunk in thier fantasy existence all they want, but to say exporting alarming amounts of new CFCs and cutting many many more trees down for paper plates is "going green"... is a lie.

Better Idea

Let's eliminate the people who came up with the idea to eliminate the trays. The green movement has officially jumped the shark. PETA is starting to look reasonable.

In the picture, the student looks like the food is about to flip off and fall on the floor. Good luck with that.

This idea of trayless cafeterias seems like little more than a feel-good stunt. Rather than adopting a much simpler way to combat waste - such as posting signs that remind people to take only as much food as they will eat, or giving smaller servings in general - they get rid of something that actually makes people's lives more convenience. With a plate of good in one hand, and a beverage in the other, how many more trips are made in order to get that side salad, dessert, pick up napkins, or silverware? How much food is wasted when plates and cups fall out of people's hands when they try to carry them without a tray? If colleges really wanted to save money, they'd start by cutting administrative positions in their schools.

How are eliminating reusable trays a good idea? Look at the guy in the picture. I wouldn't be suprised if half of his food ended up on the floor.

A long over due move. It is about time they did this. Next, get rid of those rediculous paper plates. They are doing nothing but filling up the already full landfills.

Indeed...the next logical step might be to slop food directly into people's hands. That would definitely save on plates!

This is journalism. Note to the Pioneer Press staff; ACORN suspended many of its operations today. Just thought you may want to know.

Wow what a job stimulus...they will have to hire more people to clean up the floors after the paper plates fold in half and the food spills on the floor.
