Juniors Abroad will send GFU students around the globe
More than 200 George Fox University students and 20 faculty members will embark on 10 international study trips to Africa, Ecuador, Europe, New Zealand, Greece, Israel, Jordan and Iceland in May. The tours, which have sent third-and fourth-year students on three-week overseas study trips led by professors annually since 1987, are part of the university's Juniors Abroad program.
George Fox professor picked as Fulbright Scholar to Denmark
George Fox University not only got word last week that it has a Fulbright Scholar in its midst, but that in the fall the professor will begin a nine-month stint plying her trade in Denmark. Becky Addleman, a teacher in the school's masters of arts in teaching program (MAT) for the past seven years, will spend the 2013-2014 academic year collaborating with educators in the Department of Teacher Education at Blaagaard/KDAS, a teachers training college in Copenhagen.
GFU students will receive their degrees Saturday
More than 700 George Fox University students will become graduates Saturday, crossing the stage to receive their diplomas at spring commencement ceremonies at Miller Gymnasium. Many of the more than 375 undergraduates who will participate have already set their sights on graduate degrees, including chemistry major Austin Park, who has been accepted into the University of Colorado School of Medicine and is waiting to hear back from the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine as well.
The two-time state champion Veritas concert choir will attempt to defend its crown in mid-May as more than 1,000 singers descend on George Fox University for the state choir championships. Veritas School, which is classified 1A/2A, will join more than 60 groups expected to compete in the Oregon School Activities Association's 27th annual competition May 9-11 in GFU's Bauman Auditorium.
