The drumbeat of bad economic news for the Pittsburgh region continued in May with the unemployment rate rising to the highest level in nearly 17 years, the state said Tuesday.

After reports of a "large number" of commercial burglaries in recent weeks, state police are urging Westmoreland County business and club owners and employees to take precautions to protect their work sites.
