NY Muslim deli owner says police targeted business
A deli owner in suburban New York says her business was targeted for harassment by police because she is a Muslim and an Arab.
Haifi Tamimi filed a federal civil rights lawsuit accusing the city of Yonkers and 14 of its police officers of targeting her downtown deli by selectively enforcing a local ordinance requiring businesses to close between midnight and 6 a.m. She claims the officers told her Muslims did not contribute to the city.
She also claims much of the harassment was directed at her following the Sept. 11 attacks.

NYer gets life in prison for police death
A reputed low-level mob associate convicted of killing an off-duty New York police officer during a botched burglary has been sentenced to life in prison without parole. His co-defendant, former 'Sopranos' actor Lillo Brancato, goes on trial next week.
Steven Armento was convicted of murder last month in the shooting of Officer Daniel Enchautegui (En-chow-TAY'-gee) on Dec. 10, 2005.
Authorities say Armento and Brancato broke into a Bronx basement apartment to steal prescription drugs after a night of drinking at a Yonkers strip club. Enchautegui, who lived next door, came out to investigate.
