Edwardsville schools tweak enrollments
“We're not uprooting parents and children for the sake of moving them because we just want to.”
As construction of two new elementary schools continues on schedule, District 7 leaders are discussing which children will be going where.
The two schools are a primary elementary for kindergartners through second-graders, on District Drive next to Liberty Middle School, and an intermediate elementary for third- through fifth-graders, on Glen Crossing Road near Old Troy Road. Both are expected to open next year.
Randy Pearson, geography department chairman at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, has been working with district leaders to determine how the school district should be divided once the two new schools open. Read more

Worden man charged with providing beer to teenager who died
“We're not going to back off on this. If you think it's not going to happen to you, you're wrong.”
Madison County prosecutors on Tuesday charged two people with providing beer to an Edwardsville teen who died in an alcohol-related crash.
And detectives issued a warning: They're after people who provide booze to minors.
Christopher J. Dungan, 17, wrecked his vehicle about 3 a.m. Thursday on Prairietown Road in rural Edwardsville and hit a tree. He died Friday at a St. Louis hospital. Dungan was a senior at Edwardsville High School.
Madison County Sheriff's Major John Lakin said Dungan was at a party at the home of Matthew L. Inman, 17, of Worden. Lakin said Keith A. Lowenstein, 21, of Worden, bought two 30-packs of beer for the party. Read more
