Ocean Springs to focus on its culture

Art is a major draw for Ocean Springs.
Gov. Haley Barbour this month named Ocean Springs as one of only five cities in the state to take part in the new Certified Cultural Corners program, which helps towns with a population of less than 20,000 preserve and promote their cultural heritage significance.
The program will help enhance and promote communities that have cultural assets of national importance, Barbour said. As a pilot community in the program, Ocean Springs, as well as Cleveland, Holly Springs, Philadelphia and Woodville, will be assisted with identifying its cultural heritage assets, developing a tourism infrastructure, aesthetics improvements and marketing.
