A rapidly spreading series of wildfires is threatening homes and businesses near the community of Wofford Heights, in the mountains near Lake Isabella.

Several wildfires were burning in the Kern River Valley Monday. At least nine fires broke out in the Wofford Heights area near Lake Isabella at about 9:30 in the morning.

Kern County firefighters are working to put out a series of small fire in the hills near Wofford Heights.

An army a ' and air force -- of firefighters has stopped the fire that was threatening dozens of homes in the community of Wofford Heights, near Lake Isabella.
