''It's a big fraternity,'' said Andrew Parker, an electrical engineering professor at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif., the grad school of the U.S. Naval Academy, where he's also taught.

so is he a professor there or not?

If he were a professor, he definitely would have had his tin foil hat on.

I always thought this was an interesting hobby. The internet has taken over global communications but there should be an alternate means of communication in case satellites are taken out. Terrorists? Natural disasters? We will all be looking for help from these self-described nerds under those circumstances.

Should have said heard! On my tv, my computer etc. Next time I will call the fcc when their stupid talk comes across the appliances in my home! You can put your antenna up in the appropriate place!(pun intended) These people sound like self important idiots on those things!

The FCC used to make you learn morse code for a HAM license. It was on the test. You had to send and receive morse successfully.

Do they still do that?

No, the Morse Code test for a license was dropped by the FCC the other year but you still need to pass the theory test in order to get a license.

You'd lose that case. The FCC ALWAYS sides with the licensed freq. owners. Trust me. Read your appliances, they must not cause interference and they must accept interference.

I won a bet that some goofus like you would post something like this. You don't know what you don't know...and are evidently too closed minded to find out...

Saw a contest on TV where texting teens were put up against Morse coders. The coders beat them so badly it wasn't even a contest.

What will we do if cell towers go down and satellites cease to function due to some, say EM bomb? No voice calls, no texting either! Ham can be up and operating the quickest in such a catastrophe. Don't be so closed minded! The fundamentals of any concept tend to be resilient.

Palmer, this antenna was located on private property. I was amazed when I unplugged my tv in my bedroom which I couldn't watch because of his chatter. Even unplugged the noice and chatter came across I guess because the cable was still hooked to it. It also came across my computer speakers. Quite annoying and you say I have to put up with it? I usually just watched my other tv and tried to ignore it on my computer.
