As Quoted"Police Chief Michael Begonis said this week that the department could not have prevented the second theft, given Larivee's right to privacy and property.
Try reading the law "Chief" You are covering your arse and nothing more.
Did you go to court? Did you inquire with the A.G.'s office or did you sit on your hands because it was a cop? And yet if someone had 41 Cats instead of guns, you would be running to the court to get a welfare petition.
Time to hold some of these officers and the chief responsible for not doing their jobs.

I agree 100%. The Wilmington police dropped the ball on this one just because he was one of their own. They are so lucky no one got killed.

Shame on all law enforcements department for not pressing charges on this officer. If they can't charge him they should not charge these kids. Heck everyone involved showed poor judgement, let them all go!

This cop is probably somewhat irresponsible but he did have a safe and he had the safe kept inside a house as would any one of us who owned guns for protection. Are we all suppose to put bars on our homes and add sophisticated ant-theft devices at extraordinary costs to us to keep "criminals" -- yes, these kids are criminals under our laws -- out of our property? This is ludicrous. These kids had NO right to break into this man's rented property. He lawfully kept firearms. So, what did he truly do wrong? Maybe he is a bit negligent for not checking on the house more often but we do not know if he does or doesn't. Just because he is a cop, people want to attack him. I myself do not particularly care for cops as a whole but we must keep our senses and look at this man as a person as we would want anyone to look at us. Do not rush to judgment lest you yourself be judged accordingly. The man had every right to expect that no one would intrude in his personal space. Am I correct? Let the parents of those kids take some responsibility in keeping track of their "teenaged" kids. We know how hard it is these days for parents to take responsibility for their own lack of discipline as it is much easier that way. Remember, there are many facets here to look at.

The Chief here is a brave man for coming out and speaking the truth and for maintaining the law. Would he report 41 cats -- perhaps as he should given this poses a reasonable health risk and also may be harmful to the cats. However, lawfully owned guns in a house do not pose such a health risk in of itself. So, start using the brain that God gave you and stop slandering people for doing their jobs. I do not know this chief or any cops on that force but you must call a spade a spade when you see it -- no matter what. What our country and society is desperately lacking is speaking up for the TRUTH. Let us all start practicing it and maybe we can have a better world to live in for us and our posterity. Stand up and do the right thing always !

Was there an actual count of 10,000 rounds? Or, is this sensationalism by the newspaper? Why would anyone count this number of rounds if no crime was committed?

"In June 2006, police Sgt. Scott Sencabaugh had given Larivee similar instructions, telling him that "the property needed to be secured with plywood and locks on any broken windows or doors ... and that 'no trespass' signs also be posted," he wrote at the time."

The rule in court should be as it is with FDA studies: "IF YOU CAN'T UNEQUIVOCALLY PROVE IT, IT DID NOT HAPPEN."

It is easy to make up stories with twenty-twenty hindsight about what happened which are really a fabrication based on what it is now believed should have happened.

That is why police reports unfortunately LACK credibility, and though judges know it; they generally are as derelict in their duty, and mos of them most of the time just play along.

The court system is still a very primitive system.

Its hard to keep 41 cats fed and the house kept clean and sanitary. Guns don't poop or need to eat. That's like saying a hammer collector is strange for having 41 hammers. And, really, what does he need 10,000 nails for? Who the heck are you to say what anyone NEEDS ammunition for? Simply wanting it is good enough reason.

Guns are protected under the 2nd ammendment. This cop is guilty of being a slob. The teenagers are guilty of B&E, robbery, unlawful posession of firearms and ammunition I believe.

He was a firearms instructor he admitted he had the guns improperly stored. Yes the kids should be punished but so should he. He was addressed about the safety issues. He put all the kids in our local school systems at risk, by storing the guns the way he did. If he wasn't checking on the house frequently then the guns should have been moved to a more secure location. Hello, just common sense!

The guns were stored in acordance with the law- they were trigger locked. That is why he was not criminally charged. The Kloetzer kid admitted to the Loweell Sun how easy it was to pry off the locks. The officer met the bare minimum standard of the law.The officer should have used better judgement and gone above meeting the minimum but what he did was not illegal. Breaking and entering into a house which is not yours is. The officers action while improper were not illegal. The people who broke into the housecommited the illegal act period!

Hey, I guess you never made a bad judgement before. Maybe your the perfect one that we have been looking for all this time. Listen, This cop made a mistake, He is human, just like you. Just let the justice system handle it. If some scumbag kids break into your house and take something should we blame you or the kids? Be sensible here. The cop didnt want this to happen and he paid for it dearly by ending is law enforcement career.

Larivee was seriously short on ammunition, probably due to the shortages and price hikes this past year.

10,000 Rounds "OH MY", Get real folks, that amount of ammo in none of your business. I shoot more than that in a regular season of practice and competion. You "Commies" in The Peoples Republic need some one or thing to whine about,or you don't fell fullfilled. You gutless A**holes. This one just another reason I am glad I left that state.

"Old News," The Lowell Sun must not have had much news to drag up old dirt. It was already shown this cop was a firearms instructor, all through the state. He had "rounds" to supply other police Trainees. He did lack some judgement in "keeping an eye on his property," but still the kids broke in. I lock my garage and shed, but don't feel I have to go check it out every day. A "Lock" keeps HONEST Kids, honest. If they were going to break in, it wouldn't matter if it had locks or not. Somehow, because this guy was a "cop," everyone wants to hang him,( Hello..He LOST his Job!) without thinking, "What if they broke into MY house? Is it MY fault, the locks were not strong enough?" This is a "Dead issue," and the Lowell Sun should find some NEW news to get people stirred up over. Why not start with "Ft. Hood!" Where a REAL danger was known!

"Begonis said Larivee was "spoken to" after the first theft. He declined to comment on whether Larivee was disciplined"

This stupid policeman knew kids had broken into the house at least once already and took ammunition and he still left his guns and ammunition there. Very irresponsible, I can't believe the town let him go on being department gun instructor.

"* A police supervisor had told Larivee that the property at 764 Woburn St. needed to be secured long before the 2008 thefts, but he does not appear to have done so. "
They dropped the ball here also, they should have made sure he did as instructed.

No one is saying the kids didn't do wrong, but this officer also acted very irresponsivle, we should expect more from the police. So he gets to retire with his pension and for all we know he could be working in another state as a police officer. Wimington police department should be ashamed, especially the chief, they let the citizens down to protect one of their own.

Who cares how many rounds he has? and why does it matter? Most hunters I know have 15 assorted guns , depends on hunting season, and probably at the very least 50000 rounds on hand.
I guess if you are an Obamanoid and want to deny us the right to bear arms that would make sense to post that stupid statistic...

Daily Horoscope for December 22

Sagittarius

Be careful about what you eat and drink today, my prancing Archer. Your body is in a sensitive state, so be well advised and steer clear of anything that might upset you, or to which you're sometimes allergic. Avoid anyone who's a one-man germ factory, in case a few bugs happen to jump out and over to you. Right now, you could do without it.
