They changed the name of your alma mater to prevent the old childish jokes. I had some great professors who graduated from there.

I have always called them "the dark side" but your term is certainly more socially acceptable. I learned from Jesse Scroggs and Jim Smith, been teaching history for 19 years and I've never heard it stated better. Well done!

Interesting look at the fiasco called public education. But, I must say more people in the profession need to stand up and speak out against or for what is going on in our schools. I have always considered teachers as strong for their committment to what they do but weak on taking charge of their profession. You are right in saying public education has enough problems imposed from the outside. Most of its problems are imposed from there. But, if those of us on the inside do not spek up we will never gain control or respect.
Teachers are a great lot for speaking their minds at family functions, in the longes or happy hour gatherings. It is our profession and our careers we have invested much of our time and money into making ourselves better at what we do. Time to take control of the situation or just sit back and watch the status quo continue.
Jim Coyle you know what I'm talking about.

I find in interesting that this columnist is bashed and belittled week after week, yet this week when he makes a point that they can't complain or fuss about...nothing. Why are folks so quick to bash but not to agree. Good column.

Bill, you have insight few persons elevated to the stratospheric heights of administration will ever have. You said it well, as usual.

Daily Horoscope for January 2

Pisces

Do not overspend on redecorating. Say as little as possible and concentrate on matters in hand. Someone you care about will be erratic and eager to pick a fight. To move that great idea, you need to talk to the big spenders. Run the idea by them and see if you cannot get a backer and a partner for your concept.
