State officials in New York and Vermont have arranged free ferry service to help residents and businesses cope with the closure of the Lake Champlain bridge linking towns in both states.

The Basin Harbor Club is planning to start a pedestrian ferry that will shuttle passengers between Vermont and New York while the Lake Champlain Bridge is out of service.
