Construction workers laying concrete near West 104th Avenue and Federal Boulevard hit the ground Thursday afternoon as a pair of bank robbers being chased by Westminster police fired a shot through the rear window of their Subaru.

The fleeing car was riddled with bullets after it was stopped Thursday at West 120th Avenue and Federal Boulevard and police returned fire from the suspects, a man and woman.

Deputy Chief Tim Carlson and Senior Police Officer Sean Chandler were both shot in the melee.
