Hamden Police Joining Area Departments, FBI to Investigate Bank Robberies

The Connecticut Bankers Association is offering an $8,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of two suspects that may be connected to six bank robberies in the New Haven area this year. Police detectives from East Haven, Hamden, New Haven and West Haven have joined forces with the FBI to investigate the robberies, which officials said played out similarly and the suspects in all of the cases fit a similar description.

Sentence for Veterans Admin Official Whose Home Improvement Projects Were Done on Taxpayers' Dime

Venita Godfrey-Scott, a former Veterans Administration supervisor who stole from her federal agency to fix up her home will have plenty of reminders of her crime for the next six months - because that home is where she'll have to spend it. A federal judge on Thursday sentenced Godfrey-Scott to confinement in her home for the next six months, along with four years of probation and restitution of $15,000.

Almost 18 months after the crime was first reported, Milford police arrested Daira McMillian, 48, of Myrtle Avenue in West Haven for allegedly stealing a co-worker's cell phone and cash. Police said on March 21, 2013 they received a complaint regarding a larceny that occurred at a business located at 10 Leighton Road.

The former executive director of the West Haven Housing Authority pleaded guilty to receiving $1.5 million in bribes in a federal courtroom in Hartford Thursday. Michael Siwek, 55, of North Haven, waived his right to indictment and pleaded guilty to the bribery and tax related charges Thursday and agreed to pay more than $1.5 million in restitution and an additional $363,781 in back taxes, penalties and interest.
