A heightened debate on immigration reform will pick up on the Senate floor Tuesday, where it left off Thursday with several new proposals on the table.
The Senate passed a bill last year, and several members, including the leader, said they thought the issue was settled and that only the changes made by the House this year needed to be addressed.
Instead, the bill's sponsor, Sen. Jim Ritchie, R-Spartanburg, proposed that all employers be required to check worker identification through a federal online service. Read more

A 26-year-old pizza delivery man admitted in court today that he grabbed several young girls and women by the buttocks at two Lexington County Wal-Mart stores last summer.
Brian Terrell, 26, of Lexington, pleaded guilty in Circuit Court in Lexington County to five counts of lewd act on a child younger than 16 and two counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.
The charges stemmed from incidents at the Lexington and West Columbia Wal-Marts during a six-week period from July 9 to Aug. 16. Read more
