*The following local residents were awarded a certificate for their completion of the Gold Level of the Mountaineer Leadership Program at Mansfield University: Jeremy Bean of Lockwood, a biochemistry major; Anthony Root of Millerton, a psychology major with a minor in criminal justice; Colleen Ricci of Rome, an earth/space science education major and an environmental science major; Billie Sue Atkinson of Morris Run, a psychology major; Kim Zechman of Towanda, an elementary education major. *The following local residents were awarded a certificate for their completion of the Silver Level of the Mountaineer Leadership Program at Mansfield University: Kristin Broughton of Mansfield, an accounting major; Kacie Bush of Towanda, a special and elementary education major; Christina Learned of Mansfield, a senior accounting and travel and tourism major; Emily Gorman of Waverly, a senior psychology major; Lyndie Hughes of Lawrenceville. *The following local residents were recently awarded a certificate for their completion of the Bronze Level of the Mountaineer Leadership Program at Mansfield University: Andrea Smithgall of Wellsboro, a psychology major; David Post of Mansfield, an education major; Jessica Hurlburt of Osceola, a secondary education major; Cliff Torpy of Middlebury Center, a computer systems information major. *Alyssa George, daughter of Matt and Bonnie George of Horseheads, recently received her law degree from the University at Buffalo Law School. George, a 2002 graduate of Horseheads High School, received a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from the University at Albany in 2004. She is corporate general counsel for Saving Grace Ministries in Buffalo. *Kristen George, daughter of Matt and Bonnie George of Horseheads, graduated summa cum laude from Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester with a bachelor's degree in elementary and special education. George is a 2004 graduate of Horseheads High School. *Dr. Edward "Sandy" A. Franklin Jr. of Painted Post is the 2008 Corning Community College Distinguished Alumni Award recipient. This award is given annually to a CCC alumnus and recognizes the recipient's career and community achievements. Franklin graduated with distinction from CCC with an associate's degree in 1972 after graduating from Corning East High School. He also earned a bachelor's degree in biology from the University at Buffalo and a doctoral degree at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. Franklin has successfully operated a private chiropractic practice in Painted Post for 28 years. He also is employed by CCC as a visiting assistant professor of human anatomy and physiology in the Biology/Chemistry Department. Franklin is president of the CCC Alumni Association, an active member of the Painted Post Municipal Volunteer Fire Department, mayor of Painted Post and chairman of the Painted Post Republican Committee.
