During three days in July, 400 flags will fly in the Waynesville City Park in downtown Waynesville as part of a "Field of Heroes" event commemorating military personnel on active duty, veterans, fallen soldiers, police officers, EMTs, or relatives chosen by people who select a flag to sponsor.

Thursday's electric outage hit more than courthouse square, officials say

A downtown power outage which shut down the courthouse Thursday and knocked out power to numerous businesses was initially reported as mostly affecting the downtown square, but according to electric superintendent Toby Hill, it was considerably more widespread and likely affected 200 to 250 customers.
