Authorities said two men have been charged in connection with the March 16 burglary of a Cypress Inn residence. David Bauer, 35, 4055 Hayes Branch Road, Cypress Inn, Tenn., and Bradley Eugene "Bubba" Lard, 28, 90 Haddock Lane, Florence, were each charged with aggravated burglary and theft of property of more than $10,000. Wayne County Sheriff Ric Wilson said the two are accused of taking a four-wheeler, tools and an air compressor from the residence on Copper Ridge Road on March 16. The sheriff said many of the items have been recovered, however, the four-wheeler is still missing.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- An inmate who had his ear ripped off during an attack by another prisoner in Wayne County has filed a lawsuit against Nashville-based prison operator Corrections Corporation of America. According to the lawsuit, 33-year-old Kevin Swafford claims his ear couldn't be reattached because he did not receive proper treatment after the attack. He also says the staff was negligent and his civil rights were violated. Prison officials say Swafford was attacked in March 2007 at the South Central Correctional Center in Clifton in Wayne County. Swafford says in the lawsuit filed last Friday that he told an officer another inmate threatened him a day before the attack. Swafford claims guard Thomas Staggs overheard the threats and did nothing. CCA spokeswoman Louise Grant says the company will not comment on a pending lawsuit.
