Sales tax revenues decrease
St. Landry Parish sales tax collections dipped in November. Although the decline wasn't much -- 1.6 percent -- it still marked the end of a remarkable streak for the parish, which had seen its sales tax collections climb for 31 months.
Sen. Mary Landrieu encourages alternate health insurance enrollments
WASHINGTON -- Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu and seven other Senate Democrats are asking federal officials to find alternative ways for people to enroll in health insurance plans while the government-run HealthCare.gov web site is being fixed.
Ticket are $10 and available from member ministers. The St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church, 806 E. Vine St., Opelousas, will host a garage sale on Saturday beginning at 7 a.m. The church will be selling barbecue sandwiches that day for $5.
A donation of $10 is requested, and the public is invited. The 90-minute presentation will include acting, singing, liturgical dancing, praise and worship.
Washington to become enterprise zone
The town of Washington and the area around it will soon be included in an enterprise zone designed to generate more local jobs.
