What an idiot. This is one of the best uses of a cell phone I have read about. I think I'll start reporting every idiot on the road that thinks they own the road and every one else had better get out of their way.

So, these 2 women followed him and his family onto the interstate, off at another exit, and around county roads for a while? I don't agree with him pulling the gun, but why were they still following him? Sounds like both of them need some anger counseling...

5 years in prison MANDATORY!!! I believe in a persons right to carry a gun, but it should only be used when a life is in danger and a gun can stop the threat. This was not such a case. This idiot should be beat to a pulp twice....once for driving like an a-- hole, and obviously for being a coward and shooting his gun for no reason.

It sounds like he did a stupid thing - however, it also sounds like the other car with the two women were the agressors and were following him. Do we know for sure that he knew it was 2 women that were going after him. If I had 2 women being that agressive towards me, I would be worried that they were armed since they were acting out so aggressively. I don't think that his shooting into the ground to scare them off is all that outrageous under the circumstances.

wife and kids in car, and two crazy women following him off onto side streets and yelling/harrassing/threatning. I think he handled it appropriately. If anyone is to be charged it should be the two women.

If he knew he was being followed, rather than pull over and start firing a weapon, why did he not head for the nearest police parking lot? That is the safe and smart thing to do.

Regarding Bootsontheroad's comments - If this happened in the twin city metro, I would agree the smartest thing to do would be to find the nearest police station. However, if I was outside my home area - like Minneapolis, for instance - I wouldn't have a clue where the nearest police station was - would you? And this all happened is a relatively rural area - which makes finding a cop/sheriff's office an even more difficult endavor. If you have your wife and kids with you, and you fear you might be in danger, and you are in the middle of nowhere, I don't think it is unreasonable to do what he did under those circumstances.

"According to the criminal complaint:

Scheffler, driving a pickup truck and pulling a trailer, pulled out on a road near Warrens and nearly hit a car with two women inside, forcing their car into the oncoming traffic lane."

Do they know this, or are they just taking the womens words on this?

It sounds like the man excercised extreamly poor judgement by firing the gun, but the women created the situation in the first place by following him. There are plenty crazy people in the world, and if some people were following me (including when I stoped), I would have pulled a gun as well.

First of all, when you read the paper, obviously all of the story is not there. The only people who know the whole story are those who were actually there when it happened. I happen to be one of the women who were in the car, and therefore, can tell you exactly what happened. This man, in a white truck pulling a trailer, pulled out in front of my vehicle, forcing me into the oncoming traffic lane. I laid on my horn....then he intentionally swerved back toward me, forcing my drivers side tires into the gravel in the oncoming traffic lane. I stopped completely and the guy got into the right lane and drove on. I got back into the right lane and kept going as well. We called the police to explain to them that this guy rammed me off the road for no reason, twice. We gave all the vital information, and were told that if we were going to file a complaint to stay with him so that an officer could pull him over, then we would follow suit and write a statement. That is what we did. He pulled off the interstate, and onto ONE road (someone concluded we were following me all over country roads, NOT TRUE). We never dreamt in a million years that this man would come out of his truck, with a loaded gun, point it at us while clicking it, and then point it up to the sky and shoot twice while yelling at us to "get the hell out of here". This is not Minneapolis, or Chicago, this is rural area in Wisconsin. Obviously, as soon as we saw this man with the gun pointing at us, and then shooting it we were out of there as fast as you can imagine. I know that I will be traumatized for the rest of my life. I know that I do not feel safe in my own home, as this man is out of jail on a $10,000 signature bond. I know that I didn't deserve a lifetime of punishment for honking my horn at a man, who happened to have his wife and young children in the truck during all of this. There was no verbal confrontation, and I certainly never got out of my car. This man chose to lie to better his situation. Prayerfully, I hope that this man gets the maximum punsishment....just like I will have for the rest of my life thanks to his poor judgement.

I'm sure that the prosecuter in this incident will be THRILLED that you discussed, in public(this forum), the details of your encounter. How dumb can you be?

Wait a minute. You told the dispatcher that this guy tried to ram you off the road, gave all the information (including I presume the license number) and the dispatcher told you to stay with the guy?

I just can't imagine a dispatcher telling someone to "stay" with a guy who had already demonstrated a violent tendency.

And if a dispatcher had said that to me I would have responded with, "Are you out of your mind?! This guy already tried to harm us and you want us to follow him?!"

Sorry but I think I'd like to hear HIS side of the story from the guy himself.

Hell hath no fury like a women's scorn! Are you kidding me?? These women say they immediately called 911 from where the incident occured and continued to persue? Why wouldn't the police tell them not to persue? And then they would be brave enough to chase him down and threaten him? Are you reading what he said? They theatened to SHOOT him after chasing him down. These women must have had some type of agenda and been well equipped. There were 2 kids and a woman in his vehicle. Something doesn't jive about this story. What a bunch of Cheddar Heads!
