John Fisher once said he hadn't planned to come to Muncie and had always thought he would settle in his native east Tennessee -- he was born in Walland, a small unincorporated community south of Knoxville.

Authorities arrested a 38-year-old Walland man on Saturday after an overnight standoff in which shots were fired at Blount County Sheriff's Office deputies.

Postal carriers one-day food drive May 9
The Community Food Connection of Blount County and the National Association of Letter Carriers will hold its annual one-day food drive Saturday, May 9. According to Frank Rutherford, vice president of the Community Food Connection, the one-day food drive brought in 38,000 pounds of food last year.
