Editor's Notebook: Heat, fires and freeways
We had quite the month of July, didn't we? A big heat wave, little fires that created big problems on Interstate 15, big fires in other areas of the state that destroyed houses, claimed lives and reminded us how lucky the High Desert was two years ago when the Pilot and Bluecut fires raged through out region. I thought summer might be mild after June turned out to be relatively cool, but we've seen some big temps ever since July 4th, haven't we? Last Friday night, we drove through Baker at 9 p.m. The big thermometer read 113.
