Jury being seated in Versailles murder trial
Opening statements are ahead in the trial of a man in the sex slaying of a young Winchester boy.
The following is quote from WLEX.com website.....
The state's forensic anthropologist testified Friday in the trial of a man accused of killing a six-year-old boy that injuries suffered by the boy were so severe that she had to piece his skull back together. Dr. Emily Craig was one of the first prosecution witnesses to testify in the murder trial of Lewis "Buck" Ballard, who is accused of killing Wesley Mullins in August 2007. Police say Ballard, who was living with Mullins' grandfather at the time, killed the boy in the garage of the grandfather's home in order to keep the boy from telling anyone that he had been sodomized by Ballard. During opening statements Thursday, the Commonwealth's Attorney told the jury Lewis "Buck" Ballard sexually assaulted Wesley Mullins in August 2007 while his grandfather was sleeping then killed the child to keep him quiet. In her testimony Friday, Craig said that imprints of a grate and other items found in the garage matched some of the injuries suffered by Mullins. The defense is claiming DNA evidence in the case is inconclusive and police did not look at all of the possible suspects before arresting Ballard. The trial had originally been started last week in Bourbon County, but officials were not able to seat an impartial jury after two days of jury selection, so the trial was moved to Woodford County. If convicted, Ballard could face the death penalty. It's not always easy to determine if your dog or cat is a healthy weight.
