There is no mention of the impact that creating a new city will bring to Carmel Valley in this article.
Its not just 5 volunteer council members. Its city planners, building officials, land use technicians, building inspectors, city clerks, professional assistants, city manager, city accountants, city lawyers, city animal control, pavement management department, police department, etc. The list goes on and on. Fight the proposed GPU5 in Salinas. A city is not necessary for this battle. The county could simply deny services like Public Works and the Sheriff department, leaving Carmel Valley high and dry. The city could literally split Carmel Valley into separate subdivisions that will each have to pay for their own maintenance and repair. Its called zone benefits. Think of the residents of Esquline having to foot the bill for a new Rosie's Bridge. Putting a new city council in will not ensure that development will halt. What happens in the future when developers support city council candidates so they can vote in specific projects? An In & Out Burger in Mid Valley could not be far away if in the future the City of Carmel Valley is looking for ways to make revenue like Seaside currently is. Learn the facts.
