With the future of the Watauga County Farmers Market clouded because of parking concerns, other farmers markets are also blossoming.

The High Country will be packed this weekend with tourists from all over the place heading into town for the plethora of happening holiday activities.

By Scott Nicholson A lot of people are worried about the effects of state budget cuts, but Matt Jenkins of Boone is taking his message to the streets--barefoot. Jenkins is making a fund-raising run for the Watauga Youth Network in August, making three different long-distance runs to the various schools in Watauga County.

A total of 1,250 riders participated in this year's Blood, Sweat and Gears. The 100-mile and 52-mile rides began and ended in Valle Crucis, traversing beautiful and challenging High Country terrain.
