A western Lincoln County man is accused of trying to defraud an insurance company by claiming his trailer and motorcycle were stolen in October, the Sheriff's Office said.

Amani Tyrell Bates, 20, of 812 5th St. in Spencer, N.C., was charged May 17 with one count of non-support/abandonment . A $500 bond was set.

Deputies in Lincoln County have charged a Vale man for using his vehicle to drag a donkey nearly a half-mile down a paved road in northwestern Lincoln County.

A western Lincoln County man attached a donkey to his vehicle and dragged the animal down an area roadway Thursday, the Sheriff's Office said.
