A Ferris wheel loomed over Main Street Friday afternoon as the 19th Annual Uniquely Union Festival got under way in downtown Union. The festival, which continues through this evening, offers visitors a variety of activities to enjoy including music performed live by various singers and bands; vendors selling food and other items along Main and S. Enterprise streets; a Kidz Zone for the children; a Car & Bike Show on N. and S. Mountain Streets; the Art Walk and Acoustic Cafe at the Union County Arts Council; carriage rides from the Dawkins House on N. Church Street; and the BBQ Cook-Off and accompanying Taster's Choice Competition on N. Enterprise Street.

A Gospel Jubilee featuring a number of artists performing different types of gospel music and a balloon artist who will entertain children with stories from The Bible will be part of the 2014 Uniquely Union Festival. The festival, which is being held today and Saturday in the Main Street area of downtown Union, will feature a Gospel Area near the State Farm Building.
The Rev. Buddy Seay will be the guest speaker. Everyone is welcome to attend. 10 a.m.: Pacolet River Missionary Quarterly will be held at the Pacolet River Building.

To avoid a possible conflict of interest with his duties as chairman of the Union County Transportation Committee Don Shetley says he is withdrawing from the race for the Union City Council District 1 seat. In a letter to the City of Union Election Commission, Shetley announced that he was withdrawing from the District 1 race and asked that his name be taken off the Nov. 4 general election ballot.
Rescue teams await word from Union County Coroner William Holcombe in the area of John Meador Road and River Road in Union County after dive teams recovered the body of a man who drowned. The Newberry County Water Rescue Dive Team assisted in the search.
