Union author writes 'Changing Faces'

A woman's failure to come to terms with her past and the impact it has on her life is the subject of a Union resident's first published novel. Leslie Wallace says that her book, "Changing Faces," is a work of "Christian fiction" that "deals with people and their past.

Uniquely Union continues

A Ferris wheel loomed over Main Street Friday afternoon as the 19th Annual Uniquely Union Festival got under way in downtown Union. The festival, which continues through this evening, offers visitors a variety of activities to enjoy including music performed live by various singers and bands; vendors selling food and other items along Main and S. Enterprise streets; a Kidz Zone for the children; a Car & Bike Show on N. and S. Mountain Streets; the Art Walk and Acoustic Cafe at the Union County Arts Council; carriage rides from the Dawkins House on N. Church Street; and the BBQ Cook-Off and accompanying Taster's Choice Competition on N. Enterprise Street.

Sims charged with attempted murder

The Union County Sheriff's Office reported that Kendrick Jamal Sims, 21, of 2102 West Springs Hwy., Jonesville, was arrested and booked around 12:25 a.m. at the Union County Jail for attempted murder. According to the incident report, Sims stabbed a man on March 8. The report states Sims approached the man at an address on Duncan Avenue, Buffalo, wanting to fight the man due to an argument that occurred a couple days prior.

Uniquely Union Gospel Jubilee

A Gospel Jubilee featuring a number of artists performing different types of gospel music and a balloon artist who will entertain children with stories from The Bible will be part of the 2014 Uniquely Union Festival. Uniquely Union Festival begins Friday

The 19th Annual Uniquely Union Festival gets under way Friday and will continue Saturday offering the people of Union County and visitors to the community two days of music, food, art, and entertainment. The festival, which will be held in the Main Street area of downtown Union, is being presented by the Uniquely Union Festival Board in conjunction with the Union County Tourism Commission, Union County Arts Council and the Union County Development Board.

Train collides with truck

Union Public Safety Officers and personnel from Norfolk Southern confer at the site of a collision between one of the company's trains and a pickup truck occupied by four people. The accident occurred Saturday evening at the railroad crossing at East Academy Street at Gadberry Street.

Meals On Wheels facing rising food costs

Rising food prices are forcing a group that delivers meals to the needy to look for ways to cope with the increased cost in order to keep providing that service. Meals on Wheels is a volunteer organization whose members deliver approximately 100 meals a day to elderly and other needy residents along 10 delivery routes and at two daycare centers in Union and Buffalo Monday-Friday.

Shetley drops out of council race

To avoid a possible conflict of interest with his duties as chairman of the Union County Transportation Committee Don Shetley says he is withdrawing from the race for the Union City Council District 1 seat. In a letter to the City of Union Election Commission, Shetley announced that he was withdrawing from the District 1 race and asked that his name be taken off the Nov. 4 general election ballot.
