At 4:30 p.m., there are reports of delays in the early commute through Union County on Route 22 West between the Garden State Parkway and Michigan Avenue in Union and on Route 1&9 in both directions in the area of North Avenue in Elizabeth.

The worst was northbound on the Garden State Parkway, with a 10-mile backup around 4:45 p.m. from south of Exit 136 in Clark to Exit 145 in East Orange.

WOODBRIDGE - Heavy traffic is causing problems on the Garden State Parkway this morning, backing up cars and trucks for eight miles, according to 511nj.org. The delays are in the northbound lanes from just south of the Colonia Service Area in Woodbridge to Exit 140, U.S. 22 in Union, according to the report.

As of 4:15 p.m. 511nj.org is reporting an accident that has closed the left lane of Route 1&9 South at Wood Avenue in Linden.

ELIZABETH - Saying she was the target of unjustified attacks, long-time Union County Improvement Authority Executive Director Charlotte DeFilippo resigned her post today and said she will not seek re-election as chairman of the county Democratic Committee.

A six-mile delay was reported northbound on the Garden State Parkway from north of Exit 141 in Union to Exit 147 in East Orange, according to 511nj.org. That was around 4:30 p.m. Friday.

As of 6:45 a.m. 511nj.org is reporting a two-mile delay on the Garden State Parkway North from north of Exit 137 to Exit 140 due to an incident on US 22, but it does not report what the incident is or exactly where on Route 22 it has occurred.
