Ex-editor holds fix-city rally
Ron Kaye "catalogs" a book, which the LAUSD says costs $18.00 each to do, for Rebecca Constantino as Sandra Tsing Loh, billing herself as a "Burning Mad LAUSD Mom" looks on at a rally for the "Saving LA ...

People want better schools in THEIR areas, for their own kids, not to keep paying taxes to try to "fix" the worst-performing schools which largely struggle to teach the children of Latino illegal immigrants (85% or so of the makeiup of the schools now under the Mayor's control.)
Sure, that is a brave agenda -- taking on only a handful of the worst schools and promising a difference -- but LAUSD parents elsewhere are saying, OUR tax dollars should go to educate OUR kids, who deserve schools as good as neighbor cities like San Marino, La Canada, Hermosa and Palos Verdes -- with what our middle class homes cost, let alone those on the westside where schools are actually worse than in the Valley and full of kids bused in, we COULD move to any of those other cities and have good schools, plus clean, safe streets. But many of these people are blogging about how they have long-time ties to L A, and enjoy the cultural and geographical and every other kind of diversity that makes the city unique -- but stop the PC gerrymandering, the socialist redistribution, and let people enjoy quality of life in their own neighborhoods. Same with not over-developing, leave low-density areas alone: there are other appropriate places for higher density rental developments, and affordable housing. Sure, some are genuine NIMBYs about everything, but most are reasonable people who want a happy middle. Yes, it was a largely older, traditional group, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be heard -- and Sandra Tsingh Loh was speaking for a lot of Moms who couldn't be there. Then there are the bikeriders who want bike lanes and to come out of the shadows as a viable "green" alternative to cars and buses until we have real mass transit citywide. Funny to see Zine's "Z" shield, as the Z-man! Laura Chick agreed we need better bookkeeping and accountability for our tax dollars. |

"It was great to see Angelenos speaking out and rallying in support of better schools and safer streets, which are at the center of the mayor's agenda," said Matt Szabo, a spokesman for Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa."
Since when did Villaraigosa give a rat's petoot about what the public wants? He's been too busy running for governor or mayor of the world to have accomplished anything here except to ignore all the financial crisis warnings, spent us into oblivion and raised taxes and fees to cover his petoot for his mistakes. He protects gangs and illegal aliens, seen traffic get worse, not hired the cops he promised, spent the money that was dedicated for more police on other things, overseen a rise in crime and generally been in charge as the city's gone from worse to worser since he took office three years ago. The drivel coming out of the mayor's spokesmouth sounds like political pandering and crocodiles tears of empathy with the masses just in time for the next mayoral election. |

"One of the insults is they make folks like us who care and write us off as nuts," McIntyre said. "Los Angeles is a very important city, but it's not being run like it is. It's being run like a private fiefdom."
McIntyre is correct. The "power structure" of polticians, city unions, city contractors and real estate developers attempt to write off the people who expose them and complain about the system by calling them nuts, kooks, whiners and gadflies. They fear them so they try to make them look insignificant. It's the old, "don't pay attention to them, they're just nuts," strategy employed as they all are filling their pockets with gold from the public treasury. Great work, Ron and Doug. Time for the people to take the city back. |

Only 200 showed at the rally because it didn't get the publicity it deserved. But, for every person at the rally there are probably 10-20,000 who weren't able to attend who agree with what the rally meant. New civic leadership needs to evolve from this group to grow the vision embodied by those 200. Take Los Angeles back! You have my vote.

Great.
The man who paralyzed the city with his stupid valley secession movement -- which didn;t even win in the valley -- is now going to fix the city? The man who took a suburban newspaper with delusions of adequacy -- and ran it into the ground -- now has some big plan to fix the city? Again? The man who stopped mass transit in the Valley, gave NIMBY idiots veto power over widening the 101 freeway, and stopped progress for his long, sad career at this newspaper still gets ink? Why? Ron, please, do your part for improving LA and go enjoy your retirement. Now. Quietly. |

Only 200 showed because it was publicized in the Daily News and KABC radio, which between them have 200 readers and listeners.

A radio station that ranks 25th in the market, and a newspaper editor who was sent to pasture because the out-of-town owner thought having three local news stories per day was too many.
200 malcontents who have lost at one issue or another. Zuma Dogg. And Sandra Tsing Loh, pissed because her beautiful babies can't get into a magnet school as lofty as her ambition of being funny and droll. Wow. How come there was no commenrt from Gerald Silver, president of the Encino Homeowners Association? I thought every Daily News article had to have comment from Gerald Silver in it? Hey Ron, is it true that every Daily News reporter had his or her cellphone records reviewed by LANG HR to make sure they checked in with Gerald Silver, the Reason Foundation or the Howard Jarvis people at least once a day? |

Sorry to offend the Daily News sensibilities. |

I agree with most of the comments above. The Mayor has done nothing for the middle class in Los Angeles. He either hobnobs with the rich and famous, or else he gives everything to the illegal aliens at the same time petitioning our Federal Government to ease up on workplace raids. The City Council of LA is as bad as our federal government at this point. They think that their jobs are secure and that they do not have to work for US. I'm surprised that big fat blowhard Tom LaBonge was there, oh wait, I'm not surprised, he got his picture taken!! Kudos to Ron Kaye for doing this. I hope he follows through, and I will be with him all the way.

Tom Labonge should stop going to rallies and start freeing the one lone lonely elephant from LA Zoo, named Billy. It is because of good ole Tom that he is still languishing there, with no help from the Mayor who made a PROMISE to send the elephants to a sanctuary. Yet our tax dollars go to abusing these beautiful, smart creatures. I wish we could recall them all! Free the elephants you selfish City Council and Mayor!!!

Very classy reply. When you have no clue about the issues, attach the messenger. Very classy. |

Maybe Ron Kaye lacks personal credibility, but his message is timely. If you don't recognize that Los Angeles has major problems with its city government, you have your head in the sand.

Clearly, as evidenced by comments here, the government bureaucrats don't take too kindly to being questioned by the citizens. This is just as I predicted. They want their feeding frenzy on our tax dollars to continue unchallenged.
Look at how they attack the people and the press for exposing their waste and excesses. How dare we complain!!! Let us eat cake!!!! |

not to mention how they delete Walter Moore's posts from these boards. |

I'm happy to report that I was wrong about this being a bigot-fest. If there were any racist present, they kept their cowardly mouths shut, and the focus was on the real issues that effect our city government. I hope Mr. Kaye goes after the County Board of Supervisors next.

Let's see, in your hateful, selfish world, it's racist to support law and order and be opposed to anarchy like illegal immigration. You also voiced suspicion that people who want honesty, integrity, efficiency, accountability, responsiveness and fairness in government are racists. Of course, you were proven wrong by those in the rally. But in your little liberal world, in which you think the government should be your nanny to take care of you from birth to death and ignore all the poor personal decisions that you make in life ... all those who don't agree with your backward and selfish opinion have to be "racists" and are "cowards" if they don't voice their racism. You've got a screw loose, pal. You're the one who's the coward. |

Nice name calling, BM. Do you really think that trading insults is the way to go? In that case, you lose. I really thought you were one of the reasonable people on topix but I guess I was wrong. Have you read the comments here and elsewhere in support of this rally. Not a few are racist in tone. If you haven't seen racist comments here or elsewhere on topix, you must be blind. If you have seen them and either don't find them objectionable (or worse, agree with them), then you've got a problem. For the record, I am a conservative, but I really despair about those who have hijacked the GOP, who talk like conservatives but have shown themselves to be nothing but corrupt pigs and worse. If you think I am suspicious of those who want accountability, transparency, and reform of our city government, you've completely misread me. |
There are so many nicknames used here that I don't keep them straight. I seem to recall your messages as being very liberal and elitist. If I recall that incorrectly, I apologize. A re-read of your message reveals that I missed the part you wrote stating "if" there were any racists at the rally. I mistakenly took it with the first read that you'd assumed all at the rally were racists. This movement is about responsible government and the success of the citizens of the USA, California, and Los Angeles. Those citizens include many races and ethnicities. We should all have our success as a common goal. The personal financial success of our bureaucrats taken from our taxes should be the least of our worries. I personally am a Neo Con, a reformed liberal. In my youth I saw the GOP as a party of fascists, theocratic power mongers, and racists. Part of that view was the result of liberal brainwashing some of it was fact. But the party today represents policies that I believe in: fiscal responsibility combined with limited government and limited taxes, liberty, and patriotism. Does it have problems? Damn straight it does. The shortcomings of our political processes have damaged the cause. But I do NOT see racism as a problem in the GOP (George Bush's cabinet is practically a racial mirror of the USA). Matter of fact, I'd argue that racism is far more prevalent among Democrats (the history of the party alone is cause for question). Especially in light of the fact that racism is not limited to Caucasians. The GOP has been very embracing of all races. Expectations of orderly immigration according to law, limited government, limited welfare, and limited taxes is NOT racism; rather -- it's political sensibility. |

None of the name calling bothered me, except being called a LIBERAL!=) That hurt!

LOL. Okay, I take it back. I'll also remember your nickname in the future and read your messages more carefully, keeping in mind that you're one of the more reasonable contributers. Often, I just pop in here for a quick read and a hastily typed comment before moving on to the next project. |
