Mauling dog to be restrained

A pit bull that bit and latched onto a toddler as he wandered around his Redondo Beach driveway has avoided euthanization, but the owners are ordered to muzzle the animal on walks, pay a dangerous-dog fee and ...

Is this a joke? I cannot believe that the dog was not put down. If I were Jackson's parents I would sue the He^^ out of the neighbors.

Bad call Redondo. I too love animals, but you need to lean towards public safety rather than animal rights. This ruling is ridiculously dangerous and could set a bad precedent for future decisions.

Redondo is tougher on RV owners that pit bull owners.

Webb is a coward, pure and simple. He's afraid that the dog nazis who protest "species discrimination" will vote out a councilman or two if he gets tough. So he caves in.

The dog ought to be put down, pure and simple. Do that a few times and see how fast the problem goes away.

Look up the history of this breed and how they received the name "Pit Bull".It's in their nature to be aggressive.Lucky for these dog owners that i'm not their neighbor, the outcome of this event would have ended much differently.

This is upsetting. I bet if that dog had attacked the owners or one of their family members they wouldn't "love" it so much. My dog was recently mauled by a pit mix, I no longer trust any kind dog that has pit genes. A responsible dog owner doesn't keep a dog with the propensity to attack. I had to put a dog down that I rescued from a shelter for attacking me, and she wasn't even a pit. Some dogs just aren't good domestic pets.

can't we all just get along?
The dogs that mauled reginald denny didn't have to be walked on a "substantial leash", they still walk free today.

A pit bull attacking someone isn't exactly news anymore.....is it? The dog should be dead. Plain and simple. Anyone who disagrees is a f'n idiot.

Why do people continue to pick this breed, for their loving pet, knowing the potential damage, pain and havoc which is well documented. There are so many other breeds better suited for city life. This type of stories will continue to make headlines, over and over again, along with the pain and suffering of their victims. Perhaps a reason why this breed is not trained as Police Dogs is for the reason, the breed would maul a suspect.

Sorry but if this dog was attacking the child, the kid would be dead. The dog didn't go for the throat as they do for a kill.

i like that analogy.

plus, WTF at a "dangerous dog fee?" where is that fee going anyway? and how useless will this fee be if a toddler dies from a dog attack?

this is just an obvious attempt by the city to make more money at the expense of the neighborhood's safety.

How do the morons who made this idiotic decision get in that position in the first place? Who are they accountable to? Whoever it is should be fired.

That dog is going to attack the owners or the loved ones. It's only a matter of time.

Sad, poor lil guy though. I hope there's no permanent fear of dogs.

Dogs like this are the canine equivalent of automatic weapons. If the politicians had any huevos they'd stand up to the dog nazis and ban the breeds.

Dog owners don't bite people, their dogs do.

The Centers for Disease Control calls it a public health problem. Check out

So it's OK that the child was bitten and mauled, as long as he wasn't killed? Maybe the owners should be punctured in the head with an ice pick to see how it feels. It would be OK, after all they wouldn't be dead.
Breed should be outlawed

I am a die-hard animal lover. I've had a german shepherd and now a golden retriever, so I've seen the difference in breed temperaments. But nothing is as frightening as pit bulls. Their propensity for destruction and the kill should be reason enough to permanently ban this dog. That RB allowed the dog to stay "with restraints" is complete BS. What a travesty to that family to have to live in fear. I was at the shelter yesterday and there had to be over 50 of those pit bull breeds there. It's a shame. Any dog can be a bad dog but when the innate DNA is so overly aggressive it is frightening. And these thugs that walk their pits like they are so bad-*** makes me sick. It's an accident waiting to happen.

That poor child is lucky he didn't get scalped, maimed or killed. The dog should be euthanized. We have a dog-bite epidemic in this country and it's only getting worse. http://www.dogsbite.org http://www.dogbitevictim.com/ .

yes it is not a good idea to bring the dogs to the mall. the dogs can get freeky out and go around and bite people. there should be dog malls like the dog parks. but someone will need to clean up the poop.

THAT PIT BULL NEEDS AN OLD FASHIONED "LEAD BULLET INJECTION" TO THE HEAD.
