Harbor Gateway gang members sentenced for Torrance tagger shooting

Two Harbor Gateway gang members have been sentenced to long prison terms for their roles in a shooting that wounded a tagger at a busy Torrance intersection, police and prosecutors said Thursday. Jesus “Triste” Reyes, 20, of Torrance and Carlos “Flaco” Hernandez, 27, of Gardena each pleaded guilty to attempted murder charges in connection with the July 19, 2013, shooting on Arlington Street near Carson Street, Deputy District Attorney Christopher Hartman said.

West Basin water district official Ronald Smith pleads guilty to...

West Basin Municipal Water District director Ronald Smith pleaded guilty today to one count of felony conflict of interest in Torrance Court and resigned from his seat on the board representing the Palos Verdes Peninsula and Carson. Smith, 55, was sentenced to 180 days in jail, five years' probation and must pay $7,765 in restitution to the water district after giving a $10,000 cashier's check to the water district's attorney today.
