Officials on both sides need to get a clue, firstly it is going to take time to build the ferry docking that is going to be needed, then have the Coast Guard check it out, etc. Secondly what hours will this ferry be run. Realistically we need something that is available 24 hours a day. Not something that is just open till 8pm or 10pm. Somedays my husband doesn't get done work till midnight. A temporary bridge is the only real smart solution. You'd think for the money we pay these officials they would think things through.

I agree...we can't support another ferry's prices and waiting in line. The temporary bridge makes the most sense.

I agree with the need of a 24Hs bridge! ferry is not a solution whatsoever. Also dont understand why nobody wants to talk about a class action suit since this matter is an explicit case of negligence. They knew that the bridge wouldnt hold until 2013. I posted a comment on the newspaper and also got in touch with a laywer but seems no one is interested in fighting the irresponsability! that s sad Stand-up wrote: Officials on both sides need to get a clue, firstly it is going to take time to build the ferry docking that is going to be needed, then have the Coast Guard check it out, etc. Secondly what hours will this ferry be run. People need to stop complaining and find a way to get around it. If they can only offer you a ferry it is better than nothing. A floating bridge would be alright but winter will be another issue. Years ago when they took away the toll, people should have protest to get it back, but no everyone was do damn cheap and was thinking about the now rather than the future. Can you imagine if the toll was still up, the bridge would have been able for maintenance and repairs. So guess what tough learn how to damn deal with it. People up here complain too damn much for things. If the bridge was so important you should have demand to keep the toll up so they can keep the bridge in good shape. Either you take the damn Ferry or just go the long way. Look what cheapest got you, it looked great back than but it hurt you in the long run. If a decent amount of people would have complained and talk like they do on Topix, something could have been done. When it is necessary to run and open your mouth you don't but everyone is quick to dip their nose it something that doesn't concern them. Get used to take the damn Ferry or long way.

WE NEED A SOLUTION WHERE THAT BRIDGE IS NOW!!! let them waste their time on that. The tickets won't be worth the paper they are printed on.

I bet if we put life jackets on HALF of the these bullshit politicans threw them in the lake tied to eachother you could walk on their backs from Westport to Basin harbor and not get your feet wet. Keep you ferry recipts I have 120 dollars in them this week. Maybe those will be worth somthing someday. Claim them on your taxes mail em to the state anyway...what are they gonna say??? Let them go blind on *uckin paper work over it.

to late...I posted an item on the net MONTHS ago about the planned 'bridge repair' not scheduled until 2013 and also emailed our reps on congess how unacceptable this timeline was.....not one response from anyone...nil, zero, not interested...now,the bridge has very little impact on me personally, I dont rely on it for work, doctors etc, but for those who do, shame on you, your lazy complacency contributed the the current state of affairs, so deal with it..go ahead and support sayward and little next election..they have done so so much for you all...

What about our highway departments...When we pay tax on our vehicles and Inspections on our vehicles and registrations on our vehicles we are led to believe the dipshits we pay (highway department) are doing their jobs. Infasructure that's where the money is supposed to be going. They removed the toll booth the commuters didn't. I'm not buying this " you got up to work today got your kids off to school went to work but failed to inspect the bridge yourself so its your fault" shit. That one guys right...we need to think about suing... thats the only language they understand!

Here is another reason they need to fix the bridge or build a new one in a hurry. Without a bridge, there are going to be thousands of cars and trucks trying to cross on the ice before the lake is completely frozen. How can they possibly be stopped?

i have to comment on the person complaining about people being complacent do you think we should micro manage evry facet of our government maybe we should all quit ours jobs so we can spend our time making sure everyone else is doing theirs I am glad you do not have to use the bridge but you do use the roads and other infrasture i the state and if they were in disrepair and you had to be burdened by the inaction of others I have a feeling you would be a person who would be complaining the loudest get off your high horse but saying it is the peoples fault for not complaining sooner is misguided and unreasonable the people in charge of the care of our roads need to be held accountable for their lack of action that is why we all pay taxes if i am expected to handle all the worlds problems then why am I paying them and blaming the people who are truly suffering because of a lack of action by officials in charge is in my book repugnent
