Last Day of Cycle Oregon: Closing the loop in The Dalles
After seven days, 489 miles, and 35,000 feet of climbing, my Cycle Oregon 2014 experience concluded in The Dalles on Saturday. The final day's route was a fitting end to a stunning week of riding.

2014 Cycle Oregon: From Madras frost to Bakeoven Road, the sixth day flaunted its extremes
They awoke to frost on their tents pitched in Juniper Hill Park above downtown Madras. By the ride's end, when they rolled into the Wasco County Fairgrounds here, temperatures had soared to 82 degrees.

Cycle Oregon left Washington's second-highest peak* in its rear-view handlebar mirror Monday after spending the first night of the seven-day tour in Glenwood, Wash. Like any one of the seven days on this ride, dubbed "The Magnificent Seven" for the number of peaks that will come into view, it was a journey of ups and downs.

That's because the first day of the seven-day supported ride left Columbia Gorge Community College and headed north to Glenwood, Wash., on the Camas Prairie near the southeast flank of Mount Adams -- a 63.2-mile route featuring 4,374 feet of climbing. One lane of The Dalles Bridge was closed to accommodate the northward migration.

The Dalles welcomes Cycle Oregon on eve of week-long ride
"Day 0" of Cycle Oregon is winding down here in The Dalles. High above this historic Gorge town in beautiful Sorosis Park, over 2,000 people have created a mini-city complete with live entertainment, food, a vendor/expo area, more porta-potties than you can imagine, a bike shop, and much more.

Going east (again) for Cycle Oregon
In the past six months I've made three trips east of the Cascades and tomorrow I'll shove off for yet another one: the Cycle Oregon Week Ride . The first two trips I took to the place known as " Oregon's dry side " were for work: a reporting/riding excursion in The Dalles in March and a trip to Treo Bike Ranch in July.
