This bill is currently locked up in committee, and will likely die there. But we still need to keep an eye on it.

If you have ever bought a firearm from an FFL dealer and filled out Form 4473, they already know what you own anyway. The make, model, serial number, type, and calber are put on the form. http://www.thundertek.net/documents/4473.pdf

Private sale...no form needed. No record with the feds.

Why would you care if you have nothing to hide? Don't want law enforcement keeping tabs on illegal activity?
I feel a slippery slope argument coming.

If government is ONLY interested in "keeping tabs on illegal activity" as you say, then let government require ONLY those who ILLEGALLY own firearms to list them on their returns.

Based on that argument, you would have no problem with the local or federal government coming in and inspecting your house for any contraband medications, copied cd's or dvd's, etc. etc. etc. After all, if you have nothing to hide...

I am not registering anything, nor will I pay a tax for exercising my rights. And what I own is none of the govt's business. From a former federal officer who has never committed a felony.

Telstar is a liar. There is nothing in this bill about listing guns on taxes. I read it and I see nothing wrong with this.
Under the legislation, a person who is seeking a firearm license must submit to the attorney general an application including the following information:

1) current passport-sized photo

2) name, address, date and birthplace

3) any other name the applicant has used

4) a clear thumbprint

5) a statement that the individual is not a person prohibited by federal or state law from obtaining a firearm

6) certification that the applicant will keep the firearm safely stored and out of the possession of minors

7) certificate showing applicant has passed a written firearms examination on the safe storage of firearms, safe handling of firearms, use of firearms in the home and risks associated with use, legal responsibilities of forearms owners and "any other subjects, as the Attorney General determines to be appropriate"

8) authorization to release "to the Attorney General or an authorized representative of the Attorney General any mental health records pertaining to the applicant"

9) the date on which the application was submitted

10) applicant signature

That was a little premature on your part... Telstar posted the headline of the article, which was "Bill forces citizens to list gun..."
I heard this a few months ago, did my own research on the matter and found it to be untrue. A similar bill has been introduced every session for the last 6-8 years and dies in committee.

I hope this one does as well. The whole idea of gun laws should be to punish the criminals who use them in their crimes.

No.

I said, "Nothing would surprise me with this administration."

That's not a lie - it's an opinion. And I'll stand by it.

Obama loyalists usually quickly label those of us who don't say our daily prayers to St. Barack as being "racists" or "haters".

But a liar? Not hardly.

Right above the headline it says it was posted by Freedom Rings.

I just made the first comment.
