Bowie County Commissioners Court set to discuss maintaining RRRA roads

Bowie County may soon take responsibility for maintaining and repairing roads on former federal government property at the Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant site.
During its regular meeting at 10 a.m. today, the Bowie County Commissioners Court will consider approving an intragovernmental agreement with the Red River Redevelopment Authority that would allow the countys four commissioners to equally share the cost of maintaining and repairing these anticipated county roads, located within the RRRA, by year 2014.
In other business, commissioners will consider appointing Bowie County Judge James Carlow to represent the county for planning and implementing the Texarkana, Texas, Tax Increment and Reinvestment Zone.
Prior to considering the appointment, commissioners will hear a presentation on TIRZ by Texas-side city officials.Texarkana College: Third board trustee resigns
Longtime Texarkana College Board Member Borden E. Bell Jr. is the third board member to resign in the past 10 months. Bell submitted his resignation letter by e-mail to current Board President Randy Moore and members on Oct. 20. It took effect on Oct. 21 at 3 p.m.
It has been my honor to serve as a trustee of Texarkana College for more than 20 years. I have always felt this institution, and many like it, serve as a place where students follow and advance their dreams into reality, which leads to good jobs and a better life, Bells letter states.
Bell was one of five people who voted not to renew the contract of former college President Frank Coleman in August 2008.
Mike Craven, who resigned in August 2009, also voted against renewing Colemans contract. Frank McClain, who voted to keep Coleman, resigned in January.
