Terra Ceia Road closure is today
Terra Ceia Road is scheduled to be closed today for the county's installation of a storm drain, the Public Works Department said.
The blocking off of Terra Ceia Road, also named 73rd Street West, on Terra Ceia Island is planned for 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., said Manatee County Utility Coordinator Craig England.
A detour will be set up for traffic during those seven hours. Anyone with concerns is asked to call Public Works at 708-7514. Read more
Highways in Manatee, Sarasota hit by late accidents
Highways through Manatee and Sarasota counties are slowed tonight from accidents on State Road 64 in East Manatee, Interstate 275 through Terra Ceia and I-75 through Sarasota, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
At 8:30 p.m., State Road 64 at County Road 675 is partially blocked to traffic on the east side of 64 due to an accident that was first called to state troopers at 8:24. No word on injuries.
In Terra Ceia in far northwest Manatee, there was an accident called at 8:33 on I-275 at Mile Marker 7. Read more

History on tap for Heritage Days
Two events will be held Saturday as part of the monthlong 29th Annual Manatee Heritage Days.
The Manatee Village Historical Park, 1404 Manatee Ave. E., Bradenton, will hold an open house from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
There will be gospel singers, the Manatee Cloggers and a harp player. Also, the Old Tyme Music duo will perform throughout the day.
A crafts show will feature demonstrations on the art of making jewelry, quilts, baskets and brooms, cloth weaving, china painting, boat building and blacksmithing. Read more
