It was sad news we had to report last Thursday morning when a bear wandered into town and was killed by Tehachapi police. I talked on the phone with City Manager Greg Garrett just before that took place and he and the police officers present were really hoping they could keep the animal contained until staff from the state Dept.

Napa quake predicted to impact wine prices
Last month's earthquake in Napa caused major devastation to wineries up north, causing a trickle-down effect for local wine sales. Even though the quake could be felt as far south as San Jose, owners of Tehachapi vineyards are nervous because an offset of the San Andreas fault line that caused the Napa quake, runs right through their city.

Increased bicycle traffic this weekend
On Saturday September 13 the City of Tehachapi will conduct the Tehachapi GranFondo bike event. Portions of State Route 58 and 202, as well as City and County roads, will see increased bicycle traffic.

GranFondo pushes into high gear Saturday
What better way to gear up for the grueling 97-mile mountain bicycle ride than to load yourself carbohydrates at Tehachapi's Gran Fondo Pasta Fest? The city's very first Gran Fondo event will kick off Friday evening at 6 p.m. with the Pasta Fest to be held at the Centennial Plaza, a block away from the starting line of the Gran Fondo, until 8 p.m. Dinner menu will include made to order pasta where you can choose from three types of pasta and sauces, gilled chicken, italian sausage and vegetables, plus fresh baguettes, green salad, dessert and beverage for $25. Seating is limited to 180.

Recent studies have suggested that California's longstanding record drought may indeed present such a scenario, through research involving the depletion of groundwater in the state's Central Valley region.

Salvation Army opens its community center

The Salvation Army opened the doors to its new community center at 538 E. Tehachapi Blvd. on Aug. 27 to a small crowd of parents and children, the first of many the organization hopes to serve in the coming school year.
