The Lincoln Highway Buy-Way Yard Sales Tama was a shopper's delight! Sales could be found along East Lincoln Highway , Highway 30, the Lincoln Highway Bridge Park and along 5th street Tama. On Thursday, August 7th at 8:00am, Toledo American Legion Post 72, Commander Elizabeth Ledvine welcomed all vendors, shoppers and volunteers to our event and to our two cities.

Tama Police continue Cherry Lake stocking
Lars Avery, an employee of Hindegardner's Northstar Fish Hatchery, rural Montour, places fish in Cherry Lake on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 6. A handful of the 334 catfish, averaging 4 - 6 inches long, which were released is seen in the photo at right.

Tama's historic Lincoln Highway Bridge is in need of structure and surface repairs
As the 100th anniversary of construction approaches next year, the Lincoln Highway Bridge in Tama has served travelers from the early days of mud roads to carrying traffic on the hard-surface Lincoln Highway and U.S. 30 travelers. Today it's the eastern gateway into Tama on East 5th Street from Business Highway 30 to U.S. Highway 63. Just park in the adjoining Lincoln Highway Bridge Park and you might be surprised at the amount of traffic traveling across the bridge these days.

County Engineer Lyle Brehm gave a road report to the Tama County Board of Supervisors, Larry Vest, Kendall Jordan and Dan Anderson, Monday morning, September 8, at their regular meeting. Brehm reported they were in Buckingham pouring concrete on one street there.

Nathaniel Scott Akers, 31, Traer, entered guilty pleas to a series of charges stemming from a domestic assault case on May 24. Akers was sentenced to a suspended two-year prison term and was fined $625 on a charge of assault on a peace officer. He was accused of assaulting Tama County Deputy Sheriff Bryan Ellenbecker during his arrest.

What's Happening at The Wieting
We had a special showing of "And so it Goes" on Thursday afternoon for the residents of the nursing homes in Tama-Toledo. The residents of the nursing facilities enjoy having these events offered to them in the daytime since most aren't able to get out later in the day.
T-T Car Show - Cruise set Sept. 20
Antiques, street rods, muscle cars and more will fill the streets of downtown Tama for the annual Car Show and Cruise on Saturday, Sept. 20. Following the awards ceremony at 4 p.m. the vehicles will cruise from downtown Tama to downtown Toledo and return.

Budget Inn Option signed
New family-style apartment housing on the closed Budget Inn motel site in Toledo now appears to rest solely on approval of funding from Community Development Block Grant 2008 flood money. Bob Rafferty, attorney for developer Newbury Living, confirmed in an email last week to Toledo City Clerk Janet Kriegel, an option on the property has been signed by the owner.

With the ongoing looting of the Iowa Juvenile Home / State Training School for Girls of its contents it would be wise to be watchful of the Western - Leander Clark College bell. Mounted on the west side of the campus it is a historical marker recognizing the colleges which formed the original campus in Toledo until closing in 1918.

Mary Esther Zurkowski, 71, of Toledo passed away, Sunday, Sept, 7, 2014 at the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center. A private graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama.

Call on Tama city leaders to act on properties
A pair of long-time downtown Tama businessmen called upon the city council Monday night to step up their focus on properties: Ed Hardon said he was returning to the council because he wants action now on a building adjacent to one he owns. The condition of this building at 107 W. 3rd in downtown Tama has the adjacent building owner calling for action.

Plea deal on cheating at casino gambling charge By John Speer Central Iowa Press Before Judge Fae Hoover-Grinde in Tama County District court in Toledo: A Cushing, Texas, man, Oscar Ortega Rios, 38, accused of cheating at gambling, a Class D felony, at the Meskwaki Bingo a Casino was fined $315 in a plea bargain agreement. The cheating charge was amended to 4th degree theft.

New development for old motel?
New life may be in store for the deserted Budget Inn motel property at South Broadway and U.S. Highway 30 in Toledo. Bob Rafferty, attorney for Newbury Living, West Des Moines, reported plans to the Toledo City Council on Monday night, Aug. 25. He said the company had offered $130,000 to purchase it and was awaiting a decision on the offer expected at midnight.
Field Day is Sept. 9 for Meskwaki Red Earth Gardens
Meskwaki Nation will host a field day and tour about starting a community-based farm business Sept. 9, behind the Meskwaki Casino, four miles west of Tama-Toledo on the U.S. Highway 30 Expressway.
