Sixty-seven years ago, Walter W. Kowaleski, was preparing to graduate from Elkhorn High School in Switchback, but just one year later, on the morning of June 6, 1944, he was one of the thousands of soldiers who were preparing to land on the Normandy beaches for the start of the Allied Army's invasion of Hitler's Fortress Europe during World War II.
