Police getting power to make traffic stops anywhere in Broward County
Forget the sigh of relief when you see that the officer behind you is outside his jurisdiction. If you drive in Broward County , those jurisdictional lines soon will disappear. Under a new policing-without-boundaries plan set to launch in two weeks, city officers can make traffic stops in any other city in Broward.
Sheriff Al Lamberti has quietly signed agreements with several cities in Broward that have their own police departments and hopes to get all the Broward cities signed on. Under the sheriff's plan, city officers in Broward would be like county deputies, able to enforce traffic laws countywide, even when they're off duty and driving to the grocery store.

New Sunrise middle school delayed
Parents of students in Sunrise elementary schools will have to wait another year for another middle school to be built in the city.
The Broward School Board delayed funding for construction of a middle school, dubbed NN, on the site of the former Cypress Bay Annex, at 270 N. New River Circle, where ninth-graders were once taught in portable classrooms.
The $27 million earmarked for the project now will be used to offset a portion of a $143 million shortfall in the 2008-09 budget. Funding for the new school is expected to be in the 2009-10 budget, School Board member Phyllis Hope said.
