They could probably cut the poverty rate in half if they passed out some birth control.

Salaries aren't bad if you know, blow, or are related to the right people.

Maybe, but who's going to pay for that? How about just cutting off the government handouts and letting them fend for themselves? As usual, this article didn't reference even a subliminal mention of the main cause of the so-called poverty: overbreeding.

"There's always been a lot of hungry people here who didn't have much to begin with."

Oh? Then wouldn't one be wise to not impregnate/get impregnated at age 16, drop out of school, and then have another and another and another?

Quit dropping out of high school!

FINISH high school and go on to trade school, business college or university!

You're not going to get ahead in life stuck in minimum-wage dead-end jobs.

Lots of the poverty around here is peoples' own fault.

The only reason people are in So called poverty is because they want to be. Even with state subsidies and financial assistance, these people still have flatscreens and playstations in their homes. It seems once a 15 year old has her Quinceinera they start breeding, i think thats what a quinceanera is, just a license to start popping out kids like they toss out free footballs at a game!! New mexico is one of the most generous states to live in at this time. people in poverty can go to college, live in decent housing, and even have money to live comfortably, all they need to do is just try a little harder. but they wont even learn english!!! Its all there for the taking and our taxes are paying for it, but they dont want it. they would rather have kids and let them continue to drain our local and state economy. Its a crying shame!!!

I think we all can learn from those with little or no money. It's called Sharing, you know its what your mother said as you snached your brothers toys. I am against borders as it has caused a dividing line in this country.Look at the wealth in DC. then look at the wealth in NM. It is not because there smarter in DC.It is where the Capital of this nation is located. Now look at NM santa fe /albqur. big bucks why ? thats where the capital is. want more money in southern New Mexico? split the state in to two areas and have the So.NM capital in Las Cruses. That way our tax money will go to people closer to home. create new jobs more construction of Facilities to better serve So. NM. as it is the people in Santa Fe don't even know we exist.

horale.....all of you people out there that seem to think that overpopulation is the cause of poverty are mean spirted at best sabes..????? i have lived and worked in this area for about 7 yrs now...i have seen wages and they are not good....so i opened up my own business...a service realted business...i have tried to sell a preventive manitenance package to my customers but have been rebuffed at every turn why..???? because they dont want to spend the money...they would rather pay a higher bill when something breaks then let someone come in and monitor thier equipment on a regular basis and this is not one company but several....in addition to this we also do not have any real big businesses in this area...there is no real industry except for chile in the las cruces and surronding areas....so if you want to raise the poverty level....call your city council and make them bring businesses to our town....te watcho

That's something I never really considered - until I went to that enchilada festival last week. It was pretty shocking to see the huge number of young girls of high school age sporting the pregnant belly as if it was a fashion statement.

Would this not look different if we removed certain communities from the pool called Dona Ana County? Las Cruces proper is probably ok. It's when you go to the outskirts--particularly south--that the poverty rate skyrockets.

It's often hard to tell if it's blubber or baby. Usually, it's probably both.

Is anyone surprised by this? Dona ana county is a cesspool of trailer trash Mexicans and illegal immigrants. Half of them have rims that cost twice as much as their cars!

Daily Horoscope for December 21

Aquarius

Although you're still feeling sociable and outgoing, the Solstice brings the need for a little time to yourself now and then. It's time to temper your busy social life with some precious moments of solitude. Make sure you do, as this need is something important and life-enhancing. It will certainly recharge your inner batteries, which might be a little run down.
