FReeper help need please show support to keep Luke AFB open

Full story: Freerepublic.com

I am asking you to send a letter of support in keeping Luke open for the F-35. The noise is such a small thing to contend with as the base contributes $ 2.17 billion each year to the AZ.

So put it out in the desert where it won't bother anyone. Why does a working air base have to be in the middle of the city? Put it out in the desert where it's safer.

Laojim, Luke Air Force WAS out in the desert where it wasn't bothering people, and then people began building their homes closer and closer to the base. I began 1st grade at Dysart school in 1958 and there were not homes close to the school, much less to the air base. Many times teachers had to wait for a jet to fly over to complete a sentence but it didn't bother us. I lived in Surprise for the first 27 years of my life and the sounds of the jets flying overhead were comforting to me.

People shouldn't have the right to build homes close to an existing structure and then force that structure to move. That has already happened to all the cattle ranches. Both Circle 1 that used to be out on Dysart road north of Surprise and the feed lot that used to be out on 91st in Peoria went out of business because people began building homes closer and closer and judges sided with the new people moving in. I've never understood the judge's thinking on this.

Regarding Luke Air Force Base, people knew it was there when they moved into the area, so they should have built their homes somewhere else if they didn't like the nose from the jets.

Well, we're here now and there are plenty of flat slabs of land in Arizona where it wouldn't bother anyone if the fly boys want to fly their noisy airplanes all day. That probably goes for Sky Harbor too. If anyone reading doesn't understand the problem you should realize that this is the fifth largest city in the country and has an air force base in what is now the west suburbs. It used to be in the country but times change and it is now in the city where it makes a bad neighbor.
